Su padre muri\u00f3 cuando Charles ten\u00eda solo siete meses tras contraer la fiebre amarilla de pacientes que estaba tratando en una epidemia. Su madre le cri\u00f3 a \u00e9l y a sus hermanos con la ayuda de unos familiares acaudalados e influyentes.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">La familia se mud\u00f3 a Princeton en 1812, y Charles se prepar\u00f3 para el ministerio en la Iglesia Presbiteriana en el entonces nuevo <strong>Seminario Teol\u00f3gico<\/strong>. Despu\u00e9s de graduarse en 1819, ocup\u00f3 varios puestos de<strong> predicador<\/strong> hasta que fue nombrado <strong>profesor de Literatura Oriental y B\u00edblica<\/strong> en 1822. Durante el resto de su vida se ocup\u00f3 en la obra de <strong>ense\u00f1ar y preparar a hombres para el ministerio<\/strong>. Se estima que m\u00e1s de tres mil estudiaron con \u00e9l en el seminario antes de dedicarse al cuidado pastoral en todo Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Su <strong>obra escrita <\/strong>fue<strong> extensa y muy influyente<\/strong>, como su <em>Teolog\u00eda Sistem\u00e1tica<\/em>, de unas 2250 p\u00e1ginas, o su <em>Comentario a la Carta a los Romanos<\/em>, considerada su mejor obra.
