Estudi\u00f3 en la Universidad de St. Andrews, y despu\u00e9s <strong>se prepar\u00f3 para el pastorado con<\/strong> el famoso predicador, te\u00f3logo y escritor <strong>Samuel Rutherford<\/strong>. De hecho, a Guthrie se le considera uno de los primeros frutos de la obra de Rutherford. Se orden\u00f3 como<strong> pastor<\/strong> en la reci\u00e9n levantada parroquia de Fenwick en 1644, y permaneci\u00f3 all\u00ed <strong>hasta su muerte<\/strong>, veinti\u00fan a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Durante esos a\u00f1os recibi\u00f3 muchas invitaciones para pastorear numerosas iglesias en distintos puntos del pa\u00eds, muchas de ellas m\u00e1s grandes que la suya, pero \u00e9l prefiri\u00f3 quedarse donde el Se\u00f1or le hab\u00eda puesto primero y donde sent\u00eda <strong>gran amor de parte de su congregaci\u00f3n<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Se conserva poco<\/strong> de un ministerio tan largo y valorado: <strong>unos cuantos sermones<\/strong> que fueron publicados tras su muerte <strong>y un libro que se ha reimpreso en incontables ocasiones y traducido a muchos idiomas: <em>Part\u00edcipes de Cristo<\/em><\/strong>. El gran te\u00f3logo John Owen valoraba enormemente este libro, del que dijo: \u201cyo he escrito varios libros, pero en este hay m\u00e1s de Dios que en todos los m\u00edos juntos\u201d.
